You are going to love our Artist of the Month: Cassia Beck ! She comes from Brighton with a real sense of art! She likes to take pictures and cut vintage magazines.
We have no doubt, you are going to choose her creations for all your devices! We asked her a few questions…
I work under my own name. My work consists of a mix of photography and collage, both of which have been my hobby for many years. I love both equally. For much of my photography I use a vintage Kodak Duaflex camera and for my collage, I use vintage magazine cuttings.
My art is surreal and dreamy with a bit of humour stirred in.
My photography usually takes place in the sunshine and involves lots of walking and experimenting with angles to get the right result. I seek out flowers and interesting landscapes. I also visit the local pier and fairgrounds frequently as I love the old rides and flashing lights.
I find Brighton hugely inspiring with it’s vintage stores, the sea and the pier. I feel so lucky to have all this on my doorstep. I am inspired by vintage magazines, mid century design and old photographs.
I love looking at architecture and really admire the work of Le Corbusier, both his paintings and modern architecture. What a talented man!
I don’t have a favourite, there are just too many!
My process is experimental. I play around in order to create the final piece. I rarely plan ahead, I create in the moment and see what happens.
I really love “Daydream”. I remember taking this photograph while lying in the grass and feel it is the epitomy of summer, for me. I feel happy when I look at it.
I also love “Play”, a collage which features a little girl who is carefree with not a worry in the world. I thought of my own childhood as I made this piece.
I don’t have any projects planned. I just intend to continue playing with paper and cameras!
